Hang from a bar with straight arms. Without bending your elbows, pull your shoulder blades down and back, raising your body slightly. This is the active hang position. Lower back down with control. This exercise teaches you to engage your lats before pulling. It's the foundation for every pull-up. Master it before adding the pull-up. If you can't do it, practice active hangs first.
