The iron cross is one of gymnastics' most demanding ring skills. You hold your body upright between rings with arms completely straight—forming a cross shape. It demands incredible shoulder adduction strength, lat power, and tendon resilience. You'll start with ring support holds, progress to cross pulls, assisted crosses (with bands or pulleys), and finally the full iron cross. This is an elite-level skill. Most athletes take 2-4 years of dedicated ring work to achieve it. Approach with patience—tendon injuries are common.
